Redevelopment Plans
'Staff at Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind gathered outside the kennels for the contract signing of the Redevelopment of the National Headquarters and Training Centre'
Redevelopment work of our National Headquarters and Training Centre commenced in early June 2008 beginning with phase 1, to build two new state of the art kennel buildings. These kennels will provide additional space to house a greater number of dogs that will go on to work as Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs as well as improving the facilities of the breeding programme and puppies.
The second phase will add significantly to the facilities for clients who attend the centre for training. Six new family-sized bedrooms will be built, as well as a small gym, therapy rooms and recreation areas. There will be an upgrade of the dining facilities, kitchen and open spaces whilst staff and volunteers will benefit from additional oofice space, meeting rooms and much needed storage space.
This 1800sq metre development will cost €4.5 million and to date we have received €780k in support from the Dorman Accounts Fund. Our plan is to raise the balance from statutory agencies, corporate and private donors, and from our reserves.
