We want you to get to know the #PAWsome humans that make the work we do possible! So, meet Puppy Raising Supervisor Catherine Gallagher!
What’s your role at the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind?
I am a Puppy Raising Supervisor covering Waterford, Kerry and a portion of Cork. Previously, I was a Guide Dog trainer, Dog Care and Welfare Assistant and a Volunteer.
How long have you been working here?
I am originally from New Zealand and have spent 10 out of my 11 years in Ireland working at Irish Guide Dogs.
What are your main duties?
I provide Puppy Raisers with hands-on support by visiting them monthly to give training advice and help with any issues they’re having with their puppy. I also provide puppy classes once a month in each of the areas.
What’s your favourite thing about working at the Irish Guide Dogs?
That it is such a rewarding job, knowing you’re a piece of the puzzle that creates independence for either a person who has a visual impairment or the family of a child with autism. Every day that I work with my Volunteers, I really enjoy watching the puppies grow and also being able to educate my Volunteers about the Guide Dog way of training and importantly how, and why we do what we do.
Who’s your favourite dog?
I couldn’t possibly choose, they are all my favourites!!
