We want you to get to know the PAWsome humans that make the work we do possible! Meet Guide Dog Owner and Wexford Volunteer branch member Catherine Leacy Coniry!
Who are you and Where do you volunteer?
My Name is Catherine Leacy Coniry and I am a volunteer for the Wexford Volunteer fundraising branch of Irish Guide Dogs.
In what way do you volunteer for us?
I organise events for the local fundraising branch. Some of our favourite events are our strictly come dancing event and our annual carol singing.
Other events include street collections, coffee mornings and school talks. This year I will be running the Dublin Mini Marathon as part of my #ChallengeYourself fundraiser for Irish Guide Dogs on June 3rd.
How long have you been volunteering for Irish Guide Dogs?
I have been fundraising with Irish Guide Dogs since I got my first Guide Dog Perry in 2003.
Why do you fundraise for us?
I fundraise for Irish Guide Dogs as they provide a wonderful service for vision impaired people like myself and also to families of children with autism. It gives me a great sense of pride to see the independence that having a Guide Dog gives to visually impaired people and the change it makes to their lives.
What’s the best thing about volunteering with Irish Guide Dogs?
The best thing for me about volunteering for Irish Guide Dogs is that I have the pleasure of working with a great group of volunteers in my area, meeting and greeting the public and telling them of the wonderful work and services that Guide and Assistance Dogs provide. I would recommend fundraising for Irish Guide Dogs to everyone its fun and a great way of meeting people while collecting much needed funds to train more dogs.
