Governance Overview

Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind (established in 1976) is a registered and trusted charity which provides life-changing services and supports to people who are vision impaired and to families of children with autism.

Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is pleased  to be amongst the  414 organisations that are compliant with the Governance Code – A Code of Practice for Good Governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations in Ireland (governancecode.ie).

The Principles of the Code are:

  1. Leading our organisation
  2. Exercising control over our organisation
  3. Being transparent and accountable
  4. Working effectively
  5. Behaving with integrity

At a Board meeting on June 10, 2017, the Board of Irish Guide Dogs passed a resolution stating compliance with the Governance Code with the following exception:

2.1(b) The CEO also acts as Company Secretary. The Board consider it resource efficient for the CEO to carry out the responsibilities of Company Secretary in addition to his responsibilities as CEO.
