Today we are launching an online campaign seeking volunteer Puppy Raisers to foster pups during the first stages of training to become Guide Dogs.

The campaign, entitled Puppies’ Academy, includes a video voiced over by Baz Ashmawy and featuring rugby international Sean O’Brien, lifestyle blogger Lisa Jordan of Just Jordan and Kodaline whose Love like This is the soundtrack. The main stars however are numerous puppies and their Puppy Raisers.

A Puppy Raiser fosters a pup from approximately 7 weeks until the pup is about a year old and with help and guidance from Irish Guide Dogs trainers brings the dog through their first stages of training to become a Guide Dog.

What are the requirements?

• The puppy must not be left alone for more than four hours.
• You must have access to a secured outdoor area.
• Children in the home must be over five years of age.
• Other dogs in the home are fine once they are sociable and neutered.

Our Chairperson Patrick Burke explains: “Puppy Raising plays a pivotal role in our aim to change the lives of those who are vision impaired, or a family of a child with autism. Seeing a puppy developing in your home brings huge satisfaction and reward plus wonderful companionship and valuable dog training skills.”
